Came back to see if anyone commented further and find 15 pages of people trying to defend taking advantage of new players. Nice sense of community you have.

If you take advantage of someone, even in a freaking video game, it's a sign of your character. You're a mean person. Mean people suck.

I'm done with this thread.

In real life. Buying something cheap from someone that do not know its real value is not only unethical, it's also ILLEGAL in many countries.

There's just no excuse.

so much drama over this. its like the BMP over again except for a different issue. even if someoen gets scammed big deal. ive been scammed many times. do i blame the other person? no because its natural for someoen to take a good deal when they see it. i try to look for the silver lining by telling myself ive learned from the experience. and i have. yeah gw is jsut a game but it has also taught me many things, mainly how people operate and has made me wary in real life. if all it takes is being scammed a lil virtual money to teach me life lessons, so be it.

oh and just for those that feel they are holier than thou, some people find enjoyment in getting a big or good deal through. relax its just a game.

To all the people who are complaining against the resellers and such: If you're so pissed off at people buying things at low prices and selling for higher ones...why don't you complain that any type of store is immoral as well. Wouldn't you rather have manufacturer direct prices? The only difference in principle here is that, if you take the initiative, you CAN get "manufacturer direct" prices.

Ultimately, you are the one that decides what the "right price" is.

I mean they could sell for too little, or just as easily sell for too much. Is it their responsibility to notify you when they are trying to milk an extra 5k from you? If a deal is only fair when a flat price is settled on, a list of fixed prices for items would exist. That said, no such list exists. The minipet and green lists are guidelines, and whether you go above or below those prices shouldn't be consequential.

How does that make any sense? You get the same result. All you're doing is trying to find a way to justify taking advantage of a newbie.
Apart from expensive dyes, this has nothing to do with new players.

By the time people get to areas where expensive items drop, they should have some knowledge of how to find a price. Now, if I saw someone selling black dye for 100g in pre searing, or another low level anywhere else, although they're being somewhat ignorant (apart from the pre searing person), I'd tell them. But if I saw someone selling an obsidian edge for 80k, I'd buy it, because they should be able to get an average price easily.

So no, I would not take advantage of a new player, but I would take advantage of an ignorant player
who's been playing long enough to get to the areas where the expensive items drop.

I do believe a majority of you are getting the words noob and newb mixed up.

Ok I'm gonna say it for those who don't want to be blunt. I got ripped off when I was new because I didn't know. Now... I rip kids off when they don't know. It's just part of the learning curve. Get used to it.

All the people suggesting "research it:" Lovely idea. Why don't YOU direct the Noobikins to the PC forums?

It may not have occurred to a real new player that this game has a wiki, has the fansites, and has the extensive, if cantankerous, community that it has. My early searches for game hints got me...well, not this site, and not places with PCs.

I mean, it took me AGES to learn what WTS meant. If someone's obviously new...a fair price is the right thing to do. If you can't be bothered with that, then at least tell them what they could get.

This is a personal character question. If you are perfectly fine with ripping off uninformed individuals without any trace of guilt, then knock yourself out. However, I can't bring myself to do so... my conscience always gets the better of me. Virtual or not, you still hurt an unknown individual somewhere in real life once they realize what has happened.

Hey you shameless traders who rip the ignorant noobs, you should stop doing this. It is badddd.

You should hold the noobs at their hand and teach them the ropes. Tell them the correct price. Tell them where to find information. Or perhaps give them an eternal blade to start up their game. Give them ectos to buy FOW armor. They are noobs, so they should be given preferential treatment.

Be nice, babysit the noobs.

ps: everyone should stop buying nike products, period. :P~

fyi FrAnt1c², even all the "evil" stuffs are happening in real life, does not mean we cannot stay away from them in a make believe world. Be nice to other even just once in a day could make lots of different in the world.

You do realize the computer you're typing that message on was probably partially made by people in almost the same conditions as those people in the sweatshops making Nikes? Don't get me wrong, I have much respect for people who will do their best not buy stuff like that but I honestly doubt there aren't things in your home which were made by those people.
Again though, much respect for your efforts because I can't bring myself to it. And yes, I do realize you "failing" in your attempt to be "perfect" does not make you a hypocrite

When did any of the 'buy-low/sell-high' people say they don't? I'm one of those people and when I see someone in all-chat ask for a pricecheck I'll give them an honest answer and if I'm not sure I'll point them to Guru. But I'm not going to make it my job to, everytime I trade, inform the seller of what the real price is. Someone who participates on the market should have an idea of what things are worth.

1. Give me a source
2. As I've mentioned in an earlier post (I'll even look it up for you): Something being right/wrong legally doesn't actually make it right/wrong.

Ofcourse not. Arkantos, Malice and the rest of unethical, spineless people would actually have to play to earn money. Instead of scam, I mean powertrade. Is it just me or are their posts more of a way they tell themselves they've done nothing wrong and how cool they are than about presenting a valuable argument FOR buying exensive items from noobs?

Here we go again.

Do any of you people PvP? When you come up against a newbie team do you stop and teach them how to play or do you steam over them hungry for the points?

Same goes for other games, counterstike, wow battlegrounds, halo, w/e...

And don't try to tell me it's different, because apparently it's only black and white when it comes to morality, even in a computer game.

Well why would we need a valuable argument to do something that in our viewpoint is allright? You (you being the group saying it's wrong) only tell us its wrong with which we simply disagree. I have seen no valid argument to be honest from those people. While the 'powertraders' have said time and time again that we think there are enough options for newbies to figure out prices and some have even contributed a lot to that as well.
So if you want to come talk about valid arguments, please present one from your side which isn't based the principle of "it's wrong to do so".
